PRESENTATION/INSTRUCTION

“Who can tell me the three vowels we have learned? Let’s practice making the correct mouth positions for each.” (Give individual feedback.) “The vowels /a/ and /e/ are tricky, because the mouth positions look a lot alike. It is easier to remember if you have a word to help you. I use apple for /a/, because if I act as if I am taking a big bite out of an apple” (act as if you are taking a bite of an apple) “and say aaaaaaaapple, my mouth will make the /a/ position. Let’s all do that. Great. I use the word egg to help me remember /e/, because my mouth position looks like an egg.” (Make the /e/ position.) “Do you see that? Using mouth positions will help you decide what sound is in a word.”
